Growth of the IAS Incubator Program
Over the last five years, the IAS has worked with faculty to raise over $7.5 million in external funds for cutting-edge interdisciplinary research. We offer a one-of-a-kind, holistic approach to proposal development and grant management. Project leaders work with all members of the IAS team to ensure their projects succeed and receive support in brainstorming, networking, crafting and submitting proposals, managing finances and hiring, communications and PR, and more. Your contributions will enable us to invest in the staff needed to strengthen and enrich our ongoing incubation and administration of new projects.
Expansion of the IAS’s Community Fellowship Program
In 2022, we collaborated with the Liberal Arts Engagement Hub to establish the Visionary Community Fellowship Program, which provides a platform for community members to lead the University in identifying and prioritizing research and programming around community needs. Your support will enable the Institute for Advanced Study to host a Community Fellow as part of our annual residential cohort.
Investment in Faculty Across the University of Minnesota
Our most renowned program, the highly competitive IAS Residential Faculty Fellowship offers faculty time and space to develop their own work while in community with other scholars who offer alternative approaches, feedback, and encouragement. A rare opportunity for scholars across the system to spend time in residence with one another, this program is emblematic of the IAS’s commitment to promoting interdisciplinarity and thinking outside the box. To make it possible for faculty from University of Minnesota system campuses to participate, we cover the costs of relocation to the Twin Cities for the duration of the fellowship. Your support allows us to continue investing in the development of faculty across the University of Minnesota system and expanding our collaborative network across the state of Minnesota.
Addressing Emerging Challenges at the University
The University community is facing new challenges every day—from the growth of contingent faculty, corresponding lack of tenured positions, and implications for graduate student futures, to the uncertainties of grant funding for research support. Since its inception, the IAS has been uniquely positioned to quickly respond to emerging needs like these. Oftentimes, our support for groundbreaking methodologies and projects—such as interdisciplinarity, Critical Disability Studies, Minnesota Transform, the TRUTH Project, and much more—has resulted in systemic change across the University. Your support will ensure the IAS has flexible funding available to meet new challenges as they arise with continued imagination, enthusiasm, and tenacity.
