(In)Justice Series on Just Policing

The University of Minnesota (In)Justice Series presented by the Institute for Advanced Study brings together scholars, artists, activists, and community leaders to discuss the most pressing issues of our time. The series focuses on exploring different visions for what justice might look like. Featured guests offer different lenses to approach today’s social problems, and together we will gain a deeper understanding of how to build a better future and a more just world.

All IAS events are free and open to the public. Events are professionally captioned.

In 2024–25, the (In)Justice Series partners with the Andrew W. Mellon-funded Sawyer Seminar on “Just Policing.” In conversation with community activists and leading scholars, we will critically examine how policing intersects with broader societal issues across the globe and explore efforts to transform policing.

Partnerships

As part of the (In)Justice series, we regularly work with campus and community partners. To best reach our shared audiences, the times and locations of our events may vary. If you are interested in working with us on an event, please reach out to our programming manager, Carolina Gustafson: [email protected].

We also partner with Northrop to offer the Spotlight Series.

Accessibility & Accommodations Requests

Unless otherwise noted, IAS-hosted events take place in Northrop’s Best Buy Theater, which is fully accessible. All IAS-presented hybrid events include professional CART captions (viewable online, or via Streamtext).

Some accommodation requests may take us time to arrange, so please make additional requests Carolina Gustafson ([email protected]) as far in advance as possible.

Parking and Transportation

When events take place at the Northrop, public parking is available in the Church Street Garage and the Fourth Street Ramp; reciprocal parking is available in the Fourth Street Ramp for people who hold West Bank or St. Paul campus keycard parking contracts.

The Twin Cities campus is served by many public transportation options. The Green Line train stops at the East Bank Station, a short walk from Northrop, and Metro Transit bus routes 2, 3, and 6 provide service to the campus.

Faculty, staff, and students from University of Minnesota system campuses can have their mileage reimbursed for travel to the Twin Cities campus for IAS events. For more information, contact us at [email protected].
