We Are Water: The River at Our Doorstep

Event Location
Best Buy Theater, 4th Floor, Northrop
Free and open to the public

The University of Minnesota Minneapolis campus is located on the banks of the Mississippi River, one of the great rivers of the world. The river has been the subject of study, research and course instruction across a variety of disciplines, as well as an important recreational and visible asset for the University community.

But how might the University reciprocate the value it gets from its proximity to the river? What can our teaching, research, and programs offer to the river and the people and organizations that work for its future?

Listen to a panel discussion moderated by Kate Brauman of the Institute on the Environment, and offer your thoughts on this wide-ranging topic. This event ties into the We Are Water exhibit on view at the Institute on the Environment from October 12 through November 26.

Speakers will include Mishaila Bowman, Lower Phalen Creek Project; Jim Rock, advisor to the Lower Phalen Creek Project; Katie Nyberg, Mississippi Park Connection; Whitney Clark, Friends of the Mississippi River; Amoke Kubat, independent artist; Shanai Matteson, Water Bar Public Studio; and Jewell Arcoren, Healing Place Collaborative. Panelists will each offer a short summary of their work and their thoughts about how the University can further their efforts on behalf of the Mississippi. We'll then open the floor for a facilitated discussion.
