Public Programs

Through its public programs, the IAS serves as a bridge between the University and community, frequently in partnership with other units inside and outside of the University. As a broadly interdisciplinary institute, our programs will cover a range of topics over a given year (or even semester). While we frequently hear from people curious about a given theme for a period of time, it is often purely coincidental (or perhaps the fates?) that allow for themes to emerge in the work that is coming out of the IAS, or that others are approaching the IAS with.

During events like IAS Thursdays and Spotlight Series, scholars, artists, and panel discussions allow for engagement of interdisciplinary work to broad audiences, providing both complex and welcoming examinations of a broad range of subjects. Our Reading Groups offer individuals an opportunity to gather together in smaller groups to dive deeper into work by our featured speakers and authors. Thinking Spatially is our annual event to look at the impact of mapping and data visualization of research across disciplines, and encourage broad engagement in newer methods of representing work being done within academia as well as by the larger community.

If you are interested in working with the IAS on a public program, please email [email protected] to let us know what you’re thinking of. We are happy to discuss your ideas and see if they’re a good fit for our programs.
