All That We Are Is Story (Panel Discussion)

Crosby Seminar Room, 240 Northrop (84 Church St SE)
Free and open to the public

In many indigenous cultures, story is central to a group's understanding of who they are. For the Dakota and the Ojibwe, indigenous people to Minnesota, stories of water are foundational to the relationship between place and community. The program will feature a short video by Dakota transmedia artist Mona Smith (Allies:media/art), and a panel discussion including Ethan Neerdaels (Dakota Language Society), Mary Hermes (UMN-CEHD), and Vince Diaz (UMN-CLA).

This event ties into the We Are Water exhibit copresented by the Minnesota Humanities Center, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, the Institute on the Environment and IAS.

This presentation is cosponsored by the Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication, the departments of American Indian Studies, History, Communication Studies, and Curriculum and Instruction, and We Are Water community and academic partners.
