"Living on a Shrinking Planet: Challenges and Opportunities for a Sustainable Future": A Presentation by Jonathan Foley

Jonathan Foley is the director of the Institute on the Environment at the University of the Minnesota, where he is also a professor and McKnight Presidential Chair in the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior.

Climate change. Population growth. Widespread pollution. Increasing consumption. Fossil fuel depletion. Loss of biodiversity. Degraded land and water.... Complex environmental problems have taken center stage in the early 21st century and will present enormous challenges to our economy, security and natural resources for generations to come. These issues cut to the very foundation of our civilization, and they can't be solved with business-as-usual thinking.

Question and Answer

It's time for something different.

That's why the University of Minnesota's Institute on the Environment (IonE) is taking a fresh approach. We're discovering new solutions to Earth's most pressing environmental problems through cutting-edge research, world-class leadership development, and innovative partnerships. In this presentation, Professor Foley will be discussing the agenda of the Institute on the Environment, and how we will be tackling these grand environmental challenges.
