Discussion on the Minneapolis Housing Crisis, with Ryan Allen and Jeff Crump
Ryan Allen, an assistant professor at the University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs speaks on "The Unraveling of the American Dream." Jeff Crump, an associate professor in the Department of Design, Housing, and Apparel at the University of Minnesota, speaks about "Geography, Public Policy and the Housing (and economic) Crisis." Professor Crump teaches in the Housing Studies Program.
Prof. Allen's research focuses on the community and economic development processes of immigrants in the United States. In particular, he is interested in how immigrants use social capital and how its use can help and hinder the community and economic development of immigrant communities. His practical research approach to these topics draws upon the strengths of multiple disciplines, including sociology, economics, and political science, and takes advantage of quantitative and qualitative research methods. Prof. Crump's most recent work includes "Territorial stigmatization and public housing in the United States: Urban Landscapes and the Geography of Hate" (forthcoming) and "Public housing, poverty and urban space" (2003).
