GLOS 3900/5900, section 101, 1 credit
Mondays 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
275 Nicholson Hall
Instructor: Dara Strolovitch, Political Science, and Rachel Schurman, Sociology
This one-credit course examines the history of and interplay between politics and economics in the current financial crisis. To those ends, we will host a series of speakers who will address historical antecedents to the current financial crisis; the political-institutional roots of the financial crisis and its implications for social inequality; the changing culture of Wall Street; and the effect of the mortgage crisis at the local level. In addition, we will screen a film about the rise and demise of Enron, drawing connections between the current crisis and previous ones. There will be two additional course meetings at the beginning and end of the semester.
The class meets on Mondays in 275 Nicholson Hall.
