Not to Scale

Monday, December 5, 2016, 4:30pm
Humphrey Forum, 1st Floor, Humphrey School

Free and open to the public

Professor Hunt will talk about his most recent research, which explores our increasingly confounding relation to “scale.” The shift from material to digital environments along with the proliferation of networks has decoupled scale from any relation to the human body. This presentation moves between an analysis of ways in which we’ve lost touch with scale and then presents two tactics: scalar framing and mesoscale design, that aim to grapple with the complexity that digital networks engender. The talk will be analytical and propositional, reflective and propositional, and in that sense will move between social research and design.

jamer-huntJamer Hunt is an Associate Professor of Transdisciplinary Design in the School of Design Strategies at the Parsons School of Design.

Organized by the IAS Collaborative on Product Design and Social Science, the Department of Anthropology, and the College of Design.
