Northern Spark 2016: Climate Chaos | Climate Rising
This year’s The IAS is proud to partner with Northern Lights once again for NERD VS. NERD at Northern Spark! We’re seeking scholars to deliver a five minute presentation of their work, with or without slides, tools, props, assistants, or assistance! Scholarly presentations will be followed by a community artist offering an on-the-spot creative response to the research/information presented, with the audience voting on which interpretation, scholar or artist, helped them learn the most. You don’t have to be faculty to give a 5-minute talk, simply interested in a subject on a scholarly level.
This year’s Northern Spark theme is CLIMATE CHAOS|CLIMATE RISING. Presentation slots are available every 20 minutes from 9pm-5am; to reserve your spot or for more information please contact Christina Collins at ias.umn.edu.
Northern Spark Festival will be June 11-12, 9pm-5am, in the Minneapolis Mill District; NERD VS. NERD will be on the 4th floor of the Guthrie Theater. From the Northern Lights.mn website:
“Northern Spark is an all-night arts festival that lights up Minneapolis. On the second Saturday in June, tens of thousands of people gather along the Minneapolis riverfront and throughout the city to explore giant video projections, play in temporary installations in the streets, and enjoy experimental performances in green spaces. From dusk to dawn the city surprises you: friendly crowds, glowing groups of cyclists, an unexpected path through the urban landscape, the magic of sunrise after a night of amazing art and experiences. Northern Spark is the one-night arts event people talk about for the rest of the year.”
