David S. Porcaro, Ph.D., is Director of Global Outreach and Education Specialist at Seward Incorporated, and an Instructor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Minnesota. Tamara Weiss is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Comparative and International Development Education at the University of Minnesota.

Porcaro and Weiss discuss how observatories are being used in a variety of disciplines and settings to network researchers, policy makers, and advocates to help them better understand the phenomena under study, to have better access to usable information, and to produce research-based policy. The methods for gathering input from key stakeholders across the country are also to be discussed.
