Catherine Levesque is Chair of the Department of Art & Art History at the College of William and Mary. In 2006 she gave several talks: “ ‘Fantasy’ and ‘Science’ in Pieter Bruegel’s Magpie on the Gallows” College Art Association, Boston, February, 2006; “Flowers, Bugs, and Beesties: Northern Still Life Paintings in the Medici Collection,” in Still Life Painting from the Medici Collections, a Symposium at the Muscarelle Museum, The College of William and Mary, 2006: and “The ‘True Copy’: Imitation and Truth in Pieter Bruegel’s Landscape with a Magpie on the Gallows,” in, Looking Backwards: the Meaning of Copying, Historians of Netherlandish Art, Baltimore, November, 2006. She continues to work on her book project Wilderness Places: the Nature of Landscape a study that explores artists’ role in shaping a new vision of nature in the years around 1600.
