November 15, 2012: Fairy Tales, Child Abuse, and “Childism”

Are we are ‘childist’ society? What role does children’s literature play in dealing with child abuse and abandonment?  Jack Zipes will explore the question of child abuse in fairy tales along with a discussion of Elizabeth Young-Bruehl’s book Childism.

Jack Zipes is Professor Emeritus, Department of German, Scandinavian & Dutch, University of Minnesota.  The talk is coordinated by the 2012-2013 IAS collaborative Child and Youth Studies Across the Curriculum.
