Shelly Cords-Swanson, October 4, 2012
Shelly Cords-Swanson is a visual artist in Odin, Minnesota, the daughter of an engineer and an artist. She studied Resource management and Cartography at Minnesota State University. Shelley finds that experimentation with the quilt medium is a perfect complement to her work as a teacher and cartographer. Using commonly accepted forms of cartographic illustration, Shelley chooses to elevate the map to a purely aesthetic expression. Of particular emphasis, she specializes in topographic quilts where the contour line becomes an important element of the quilted surface.
