Sunny Ruthchild, July 16, 2012

Sunny Ruthchild is the founder and grower of Merryweather Gardens, located just a few miles from the historic site where the Laura Ingalls family lived in a dugout near Walnut Grove in the late 1800s. Merryweather Gardens provides organically grown, chemical free meat, herbs, and vegetables Ruthchild grew up in southwestern Minnesota, left the area, and then returned as a farmer. This interview is conducted in Ruthchild’s orchard, as the sun is setting, on what had been a brutally hot and windy day.  Ruthchild talks about local food production and distribution–successes and obstacles.  Two of my favorite quotations from the interview–“You build health from the soil up” and “I work from a list, not from a schedule.”

The interview can also be downloaded as a video podcast (306.4 MB) or as an audio file (.mp3 – 54.5 MB). A transcript is available as Word document or pdf.
