Ozan Karaman, Mellon/ACLS Recent Doctoral Recipients Fellow, 2010-11

Ozan Karaman (Post-doctoral researcher, Singapore ETH Centre for Global Environmental Sustainability)

Project: “Islamic Urban Governance: A Transnational Perspective”

Over the course of his fellowship, Karaman prepared dissertation chapters for publication. He submitted three articles to journals, one of which is now forthcoming in Antipode. He also made progress on his next research project, conducting an extensive survey of public housing policies around the world. Using the results of this preliminary research, he completed a fourth article which is currently under review.

From 2008-09, Karaman was an Interdisciplinary Doctoral Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study, working on his dissertation project, “Building a ‘world city’: Urban entrepreneurialism and the politics of segregation in Istanbul,” while pursuing his PhD with the Department of Geography (CLA) at the University of Minnesota.

The IAS served as institutional host for a Mellon/ACLS Recent Doctoral Recipients Fellow in 2010-11. This fellowship is awarded by the American Council of Learned Societies and funded by the Mellon Foundation.
