Project: “Occupied Okinawa on the Edge of Law”
During his residency, Onishi worked to rethink the conceptualization of his second book project and completed the draft of the journal article “Shiroma‘s Act as Critical Theory: On Being Okinawan in Hawai‘i and U.S. Colonialism Toward Okinawa,” which has been submitted to American Quarterly. Inspired by the work of other fellows, he undertook the task of explanatory construction by way of tracing the political genealogy of occupied Okinawa.
