Mark Pedelty (School of Journalism and Mass Communication, CLA), Fall 2009
Project: “Global Media? A Comparative Analysis of Journalistic Subjectivity in Environmental Reporting”
Pedelty completed a book proposal related to his IAS project, which was submitted in collaboration with Doug McCloud, University of Wisconsin, and Kristine Weglarz, a UMN graduate student. During fall semester he advanced his collaboration with David Fan (Cell Biology and Genetics) and Melissa Thompson (SJMC) regarding “Climate Change News Coverage” and made a film about a rain garden project in the Powderhorn neighborhood of Minneapolis. Pedelty reports that his book proposal, Popular Music as Environmental Communication, was enhanced by discussions with other fellows, and benefited the most from the IAS experience.
Ecomusicology: Rock, Folk, and the Environment was published by Temple University Press in 2012.
