Minnesota Fringe Festival July 30 – August 9, 2009

Minnesota Fringe Festival is a Minneapolis-based nonprofit organization that organizes an annual, 11-day festival. 2009 marks their sixteenth anniversary. Since 1993, Minnesota Fringe has grown by leaps and bounds into the Midwest’s largest performing arts festival—and the largest nonjuried, uncensored Fringe in the United States. The organization does not judge, jury or censor the work of any artist — their goal is to provide a platform for performance, and leave it up to the audience to evaluate the results.

Robin Gillette is Executive Director of the Minnesota Fringe Festival. She has also worked as the Managing Director of the Twin Cities-based Outward Spiral Theatre and in Marketing and Community Relations at the Mixed Blood Theatre in Minneapolis. The interview can also be downloaded as a video podcast (123.3 MB) or as an audio file (.mp3 – 54.1 MB).

Ryan Hill and Heather Stone are part of Sandbox Theater, a group that collaborates to create true ensemble theater — they start without a script and develop the play by communal inquiry and creative experimentation. In Sandbox’s first appearance at Fringe this year, they presented June of Arc, and invited audiences to “Take a peek under the apron of the paragon of motherly virtue – June Cleaver! Go beyond the Jell-O and pearls to reveal her shield of cookie-plated resentment.” The interview can also be downloaded as a video podcast (130.6 MB) or as an audio file (.mp3 – 53.1 MB).
