Margaret Werry, Faculty Fellow, Fall 2008
Margaret Werry (Theatre Arts and Dance, College of Liberal Arts): “Traveling the Virtual Pacific: Political Theatre and Theatrical Politics”
Werry had a highly productive fellowship, in which she completed components of three major projects and broadened the interdisciplinary foundation of her scholarship in ways she had not originally envisaged. She presented three conference papers on components of her book project, developed two chapters, completed “Under the Seat of Knowledge: A Photo Essay on Failure” (with Róisín O‘Gorman) in Transformations 20:1 (Spring-Summer 2009), and revised the introduction to her first book, The Tourist State: Performing Leisure, Liberalism, and Race in New Zealand (UMN Press, 2011). She also wrote the introduction to the anthology Teaching to Fail: performance, predicament, possibility (coedited with Róisín O‘Gorman).
