Drawing upon the history of genocide that defined the twentieth century and the aesthetic confluence of modernity and modernism, Prof. Bohlman turns to the problem of aesthetic response to the conditions of destruction and death. Philip V. Bohlman is the Mary Werkman Distinguished Service Professor of the Humanities and of Music at the University of Chicago, where he served as Chair of Jewish Studies during 2003-2006.
