David Chang, Faculty Fellow, Fall 2007

David Chang (History, College of Liberal Arts) made significant progress on his project “Hawaiian Global Geographies in the Age of High Imperialism.” He wrote a prospectus for the project, made a major research trip to gather materials, collected and organized a large body of research materials from other libraries, significantly improved his reading knowledge of Hawaiian, wrote and delivered two conference papers at the American Society for Ethnohistory and the Southern Historical Association, and wrote and submitted an article to a peer-reviewed journal, which he is currently revising for publication.  That article, “An Equal Interest in the Soil: Creek Small-Scale Farming and the Work of Nationhood, 1866-1889,” appeared in American Indian Quarterly 33:1 (2008), and his book, The Color of the Land: Race, Nation, and the Politics of Land Ownership in Oklahoma, 1832-1930, was published by the University of North Carolina Press in 2010.
