“Definition and Ideology in the New Rhetoric: I.A. Richards, Richard Weaver and Current Research on Definition”: A talk with David Beard, 12/13/07

Ivor Armstrong Richards (1893-1973) is considered one of the founders of modern English literary criticism and is particularly known for his influence on the school of New Criticism. Among his many books are The Meaning of Meaning and The Philosophy of Rhetoric. Richard Weaver (1910-1973) was a leading conservative critic of American culture and cultural relativism. His influential works include Ideas Have Consequences and The Ethics of Rhetoric. David Beard is an assistant professor in the Department of Writing Studies at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
