“Delicious Movement”: A workshop with Eiko Otake, 12/5/07

December 5, 2007IASEvents0

Delicious Movement Workshops are designed for all people who love to move or who want to love to move with delicious feelings. You don’t have to be a dancer to enjoy the experience. The workshops are also for actors, poets, musicians, visual artists or anyone interested in developing their creativity. The workshops are noncompetitive and appropriate to all levels of training and ability. Eiko & Koma hope each participant will develop lifelong pleasure in dancing any time, anywhere available to them, whether professionally or in their living room.

Since 1972, Japanese-born choreographer/dancers Eiko & Koma have created a unique theater of movement out of stillness, shape, light, sound, and time. They have presented their works in theaters, universities, museums, galleries, and festivals world-wide, including numerous appearances in American Dance Festival, five seasons at BAM’s Next Wave Festival and a month-long “living” gallery installation in the Whitney Museum of American Art. Eiko & Koma wish to present their dance as a part of landscape, an offering, and a process rather than a product.

Eiko & Koma were awarded the 2004 Samuel H. Scripps American Dance Festival Award for their “lifetime contribution to the field of modern dance.” In 2006 Eiko & Koma received the Dance Magazine Award and were honored in the first round of the United States Artists Award. Their production and touring are regularly supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, New York State Council for the Arts, Japan Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation and the Mellon Foundation.
