Discussion on “Sexuality and Time” centering on the work of Elizabeth Adams and Lee Edelman, November 2

What is the relationship of sexuality to time? When do fleeting sexual moments become inserted into a narrative of time, of marriage and reproduction? How does race, as well as queerness, shape exclusions from this heteronormative time? When is ejaculation premature? Does drag change the register of time through performance? Do queers have a future? Elizabeth Freeman’s “Introduction” to the Queer Temporalities Issue of GLQ will be a useful piece to read to think about these issues. We might also discuss Lee Edelman’s provocative new book, “No Future: Queer Theory and the Death Drive.” But we are not assuming anyone has done this reading, just come with ideas! Organized by the Global Sexualities Collaborative. Liz Freeman’s article can be found here: http://muse.jhu.edu.floyd.lib.umn.edu/journals/ journal_of_lesbian_and_gay_studies/v013/13.2freeman.pdf
