“Is Journalism Dead?: What’s Happening to Newspapers, What it Means for Our Democracy, and What Citizens Can Do About It”: A talk with Jeremy Iggers, November 1

November 1, 2007IASEvents0

The failings of journalism are often framed in ethical terms: the problem is the greed of owners, the arrogance of journalists, and/or the indolence of the public, and the solution is for each party to act more responsibly for the sake of the common good. But what if the decline of journalism is really the product of economic, technological and societal forces beyond anyone’s control? Jeremy Iggers will explore the potential of these forces to produce new channels of communication and new forms of civic participation. Jeremy Iggers is head of the Twin Cities Media Alliance and a lecturer for the School of Journalism at the University of Minnesota.
