Building on Hmong Women’s Assets: Past, Present and Future

Highlights of this conference will be the contributions that Hmong women have made to Hmong society. Hmong women have made inroads in history, but have not been acknowledged. This is the time to celebrate the achievements of Hmong women from the task of being a daughter to being a State Senator. In the short 30 years that Hmong women have stepped foot onto the grounds of the United States of America, we have transformed our lives from farm laborers, mothers of many children, caregivers to our parents, husbands, and clans; to business owners, teachers, principals, lawyers, doctors, professors, CEOs and elected officials. At the same time we have been very humble in maintaining our rich cultural traditions. The flexibility of Hmong women in balancing the many roles and responsibilities that are bestowed on us by our Hmong society to blending in with the professionalism of mainstream society has brought a sense of achievement to our mothers and grandmothers before us that “Yes” we are SOMEBODY valuable.

Sponsored by the Hmong Women’s National Conference Committee in cooperation with the Institute for Advanced Study.
